Press Finds Story 27 Years Late

The link above is to an article on a former Southern Baptist turned to Wicca. What's so unusual about that? In 1979 the Southern Baptist Convention went from being the second-most liberal church in America to die-hard Fundamentalist in an abrupt Takeover. In subsequent years the Southern Baptist seminaries became hardline bastions, and thousands of Southern Baptists women who had planned to enter the pulpit "left Christianity altogether" as it was reported by a Southern Baptist faculty member at the time. Thousands more Southern Baptist men and women left the church before they got to the seminary, including yours truly. The flight away from Fundamentalism to Paganism is one of the most under-reported stories of the late 20th Century.
